My students need 4 chairs and 4 pillows to place in the classroom. I've learned through my 21 years of teaching that all of my students are unique. Flexible seating is a way to help.
This project expired on December 18, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Have you ever doodled while you are talking on the phone? While you are at a professional development class do you bounce your knee? Do you need to stand up when you've been sitting for too long? I once had a student who was sitting in a traditional desk chair and decided to move him because he was frustrated performing seatwork. I allowed him to stand at a desk in the back so he could rock back and forth. Not only did he finish, it gave him a confidence boost! Many of my students have a difficult time sitting still and need alternative seating.
I will use the beach like chairs and pillows at tables. Students will also be able to use them during independent work time.
This is my third year implementing alternative seating in my classroom and it’s been AMAZING!
I have added yoga balls and cushioned crates to my classroom. My students are way more focused and they like having different options for seating. It has had such a positive impact on my students.
Flexible seating has helped my entire classroom! From students who struggle to learn, have behavior issues, or just don't do so well in a "regular chair. Good-bye wigglers. I have students on task and focused now.
