Kindergarten sets the stage for a lifetime of learning, and I want to encourage the innate inquisitive natures of my eager young students who come to school everyday full of curiosity, questions, and boundless energy.
Our class is comprised of 25 extremely diverse Kindergartners, representing 13 distinct ethnicities.
I love that we are truly a melting pot, and this helps lay the foundation for the children to learn acceptance of everyone.
Our school spans Transitional Kindergarten through fifth grade. More than half of my class are English Language Learners. We are ethnically and linguistically diverse with hugely varying academic levels and interests.
My Project
My energetic kindergartners need flexible seating options to help them focus. I have several special needs students who will greatly benefit from wobble cushions and chair bands, but almost all of my students have excess energy and need to get their wiggles out.
This young generation is used to constant stimulation, but they need to soothe their bodies and minds to maintain concentration.
Wobble cushions and chair bands will help them release pent-up energy without hurting themselves or others.
I borrowed some of these from a colleague, and my kids fell in love with them. Now I need to get some for my classroom. The ultimate goal is to get a wobble cushion for each student, but we'll start with 6 and build up from there!
