Help me give my students flexible seating so they get the opportunity to make choices in the way they want to learn. Students will be more comfortable, allowing them to focus for longer periods of time.
In my kindergarten classroom, I have 25 diverse students. My students are leaders, explorers, and dreamers. My students are caring, loving, and kind. My students work together to help each other succeed. They set goals and work to achieve those goals daily.
It is a Title I school, which means over half of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes.
Most of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our school is recognized as a Stephen Covey Leader In Me School. As a Leader in Me School, students discover and practice a set of leadership and life skills from Stephen Covey's book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
My Project
Students learn in all different ways, flexible seating allows students to sit in ways where they can optimize their focus to put first things first and learn! In addition to helping children focus, flexible seating can help increase collaboration, an essential skill of 21st century learners. Our classroom environment is vital in making students feel safe and comfortable at school, this transformation can help make an ordinary classroom of tables and chairs into a vibrant, enchanting, learning studio. Furthermore, many students have trouble maintaining attention so being able to move and change spots will minimize attention issues and eliminate potential behavior issues.
There are many benefits to flexible seating including physical health, community, comfort, and collaboration.
Flexible seating increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength by wobbling, rocking, bouncing, and standing. It burns more calories and boosts children’s metabolisms. This increases their motivation and engagement. Flexible seating encourages students to sit in different locations with different seating options. They can work with their peers in small or large groups by easily moving their seating option.
