My students need flexible seating in order to maximize their learning within the classroom. Students will be using stability balls, wobble chairs, a standing desk, and activity bands for their chairs.
This is my first year teaching and I teach in a rural town located in Utica, IL. Our school has a strong sense of community where there is a relationship between the teachers and families. I currently have twenty wonderful students who have created a family bond because they have been in class together since kindergarten.
My students are very collaborative, enthusiastic, creative, full of energy, and most importantly have a love for learning.
It is my goal to provide an equitable education for each of my students and for them to become lifelong learners.
Even though they have created a family within our classroom, not each student learns in the same way. I differentiate my lessons and use tools to meet the needs of all my learners. Many of my students are full of energy and need to be sitting in a seat which best supports their learning throughout the day. I want to provide all of my students with a classroom where they can be successful and are motivated to reach their highest potential.
My Project
The items listed within this flexible seating project will be used for my fourth graders who are filled with energy each and every day. Students learn when there is movement within the classroom and when they have the choice to sit in a working environment which best suits their learning style. I want to be able to provide flexible seating to my students to maximize their learning every day. My students will be able to either work on the floor on cushions and pillows, sit in desks with stability balls, wobble chairs, and activity bands, or stand, by using standing desks. With being a first-year teacher, I have gone way past my budget to set up my classroom.
I am in need of community support and help to fund this project in order to give all twenty of my fourth graders the opportunity to be in a safe environment where their learning styles are valued, appreciated, and maximized, to guide them to success.
