Our elementary school follows the achievement plus model which helps to meet the needs of all students academically as well as assisting families with resources. My 20 first graders are a diverse group of students that are full of energy. Sometimes this energy interferes with our learning. Many students in my classroom have had life experiences that cause them to need some time and space away from their peers. Flexible seating will allow the students to be able to find a place to continue to work, but in their own space.
In our classroom, we have discovered that traditional seating doesn't work for all learners.
We would love to have seating that allows students to meet their best learning styles and needs.
My Project
While sitting at a table to work independently works for some students, it does not meet the needs of all students. The flexible seating options will allow students to find their perfect learning spot.
Allowing students to have a choice in where they sit enables them to take charge of their learning.
The bean bag chairs and floor seats will allow students that need to move away from the table find an alternative spot within the classroom to work. The wobble chairs and wobble cushions will give those students that need to wiggle while they work an opportunity to do so in a safe way, without standing out from their peers.
