Our school is a K-5 inner city school with 556 students.
90% of our student population is designated as socio-economically disadvantaged. The majority of the students qualify for a free or reduced lunch program.
I teach 35 amazing fourth grade students who love learning and coming to school every day. There is plenty of movement throughout the day, with lots of opportunities to work with partners or small groups. The students really enjoy collaborating on projects and doing research together.
Imagine having to sit at a desk without movement for six hours a day. Flexible seating allows students to work with other students or alone in a manner that works best for them! My students love doing research and collaborative work during the day. They can be found in a variety of places in the room such as at student desks, in a group at a table, or sitting or laying on the floor with their notebooks and Chromebooks. My students are incredibly motivated during independent and group work time. They make good choices, engage in academic conversations, and learn from their peers. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating!
