I accepted a job as a kindergarten teacher after the school year begun. I know this being my first year teaching I need some items to help make the students be comfortable, successful, and love learning. The school is a very diverse school. Many students (95%) come from homes that qualify for free/reduced lunches. Serveral of our students come from broken homes, single-parent homes, and foster homes.
For many of the students, Kindergarten will be their first exposure to any type of classroom setting.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting will be used for flexible seating in the classroom. With many of my students never being in a school environment before entering my class, sitting on the floor and in a standard chair for 6 hours a day is not easy. Many students wiggle and squirm throughout the day. Flexible seating would help my students in many ways. One way flex seating would help my students will be that they get a choice of where they sit creating a sense of independence and responsibility to complete their work. Also, students will be more engaged in learning when they are comfortable! Finally, the flex seating will help students in my class that may have special needs. My students cannot wait for the different seating options that will be available to them!!!
