I teach at a school in the heart of our city, and we serve families who greatly differ in regards to economic status and cultural backgrounds. Many students live in the apartment complexes adjacent to our school, and do not always have access to quality learning materials at home. My classroom community is very diverse, and most of my students are English learners who speak a language other than English at home. My first grade students come to school every day excited to learn! What I love most about them is that they are all eager to share, explore, and grow together!
My goal is to provide a warm, inviting environment for my students in order to encourage them to explore new ideas and take learning risks!
My Project
When children are uncomfortable, they struggle to be the best version of themselves. I believe it is so important to create an engaging environment in a classroom space by having comfortable seating options for my students. This year I am hoping to begin using the flexible seating model to encourage my students to find spaces where they can maximize their learning. I am in need of several flexible seating options to get started with helping my students change the way they learn. Wobble stools, wobble cushions, and fidget bands will help my students move in the ways they need to as they learn, work, and collaborate in my classroom.
Most children in this day and age are unable to sit in a hard chair all day while being expected to do their best work.
