I teach third grade at at Title 1 school where many of my students are second language learners. I teach a diverse group of students with varying learning needs. They see school as a safe place and come to school with smiles on their faces eager to learn new things and build positive relationships.
Each of my students learn differently and need a safe space to learn, explore, and thrive.
They deserve to be in an engaging, inspirational, exciting, and supportive learning environment. As their teacher, it is my responsibility to provide a learning environment to support each and every learner.
My Project
My students come to school full of energy and excited to learn new things daily. I want their classroom environment to support their excitement and energy for learning. Today's classroom should have a variety of seating options instead of the one-size-fits-all learning environment of the past.
My students need flexible seating options to support their learning, give them a positive outlet for their energy, and create an engaging environment.
Flexible seating gives students the freedom to choose a comfortable place to work and learn, both independently and collaboratively. It also allows them to take more ownership of their learning and gives them control of their learning space. They are able to move around as needed in order to stay focused and engaged in their work. My students need wobble chairs, balance balls, and wobble cushions as flexible seating options in the classroom.
How do you work best? In a rigid seat at a desk? I know, for me, it is sprawled out on the floor. By adding flexible seating options in my classroom, my students will be able to choose a seat where they know they can work hard and be successful.
