Our school is nestled in the true heart of Texas, and boy do my kiddos have the hearts to prove it! My students are creative, kind, thoughtful, and have an endless supply of questions to ask. They are always ready to try new things, and love hands-on lessons! We strive to be a welcoming community of learners. Many of our students need a little more help to be successful, and I pride myself in going the extra mile to try different things to help them connect to the content.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: sitting under tables, sitting on a bean bag chair, laying on the floor, or even sitting on a counter. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating.
By choosing their own seats, they are noticeably more engaged in their work and retain more information.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
