Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The first week of school has started and my TK/K students are excited about all the things they are going to learn. I am so lucky to teach another amazing group of diverse scholars. Even though I am just getting to know them, I already know this is one of the most special groups I have had in my career.
My students always come to school with a huge smile, ready to learn, and I know that for many of them this may be the only positive experience they have all day.
I am truly amazed by their joy for learning and I cannot wait to teach them this year. It is going to be a challenging year in some ways, but I am confident they will all succeed.
My Project
The research on flexible seating says that students are able to engage better when given a choice on seating. My students are unique and have their own way of learning. Not one will learn in the exact same way. I believe that flexible seating arrangements will increase motivation and productivity within my classroom.
As I looked around today many of my students like to wiggle and jiggle in their seats.
Some are standing, some are half in a chair, and most have a hard time just sitting. Often times this gets in the way of their ability to focus, learn, and engage. If my students were given the choice to sit wherever they felt comfortable I believe they would be much more engaged and excited to learn. In my project I chose wiggle chairs, bean bags, rockers, and stools so students could have choices in how they work. In addition, they will have choice in where and how they complete their work, giving them options depending on their needs and/or preference.
