Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher going into my 7th year of teaching I had had the opportunity to work with many wonderful students. This year is my first year working with 1st grade students and their little minds are inspiring. As English language learners, reading is incredibly important and they love finding new adventures in the books that they read.
My students are creative, compassionate, and love taking on new challenges.
They come to school ready to learn and to celebrate success not only for themselves but also for one another. They are a truly supportive classroom community where relationships and social skills are at the front of our learning day.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to make choices based on what they need. During centers they are able to choose a location in the classroom to complete their work in a way that works for them. Being in a portable their options are limited to their desks, the carpet or under their desks, but the flexible seating would give them more variety and choice.
Making sure students are comfortable ensures that they are both motivated and more likely to complete their work.
It is important that they are not stuck sitting in their desk chair all day long. These flexible options will allow them to choose to sit on a bag or on a stool when they are feeling the need to move while they work.
