My students are a group of energetic and enthusiastic 7th graders from a low-income/high-poverty school district in south Mississippi. They love to read, discuss their opinions, work collaboratively, and develop and share ideas with one another.
Because I think it is important to nurture collaboration and creativity in the classroom, I look forward to creating a space where my students are comfortable to express themselves while they engage in an active learning environment.
Primarily, our 7th grade English language arts class focuses on reading and writing, but we also practice skills such as self-control, independence, mindfulness, and collaboration.
My Project
My students need flexible seating options to accommodate their very different learning styles. While some students prefer to stand, or need constant movement, others prefer to sit comfortably while learning.
Over the last year, I have purchased various seating options, such as bean bags and exercise balls, and my students have performed with greater motivation and enthusiasm.
Now, I am ready to extend our flexible seating arrangements to create an even more differentiated learning environment. With your generosity, my students will gain the ability to make decisions about their own learning as well as how to work with others in a collaborative classroom environment.
