My students need flexible seating options including cushions and stools in order to meet their needs, stay on task, and complete their best quality work!
My students are a high energy group of third graders who are very curious about how the world works and they enjoy learning new things. In studies, flexible seating has proven to help students stay engaged by supporting their sensor needs. In this day and age, it can be so hard for my students to stay engaged for 7 hours a day, 7 days a week. In third grade, we are preparing for the End Of Grade Assessment, MCLASS testing (reading), amongst the formal assessments of each common core standard! My students are always learning new content and it's often coming at a fast pace.
My kids have a variety of energy levels and come from many different backgrounds!
In order to meet their energy levels, I've decided to start this project. My students and I can't do this without you! Right now, our elementary school hosts 40% of students who are eligible for free and reduced lunch.
My Project
Ive decided to ask for 22 wobble cushions so every child in the class can have access to one. It allows for students to "wobble and wigggle" in their seats as they are listening, collaborating with peers, and completing independent work! It stimulates their sensory motor skills!! In addition, I have asked for 5 stools to be apart of my guided reading table when I am working with small groups. Lastly, I have asked for two wobble stools which will rotate throughout the classroom so students can continue to "wiggle and wobble" while also stimulating their core!
Studies have shown that flexible seating increases engagement in the classroom!
All of these items will allow each of my students to wiggle as they learn and stimulate their sensory motor skills! I can not wait to see the positive impact this has on their learning environment!
