This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many come to school having lack of sleep and empty bellies. At school, my students are striving to learn in a STEM program, with vigorous curriculum in both science, social studies, and math. They need tools that allow them to move about, while staying focused on the task at hand.
Despite the challenges they are facing my students are full of energy and ready to learn each and every day.
They strive to follow our school's strict set of rules and expectations so that they can move forward and continue their education well into their future.
My students are fun and loving, with big personalities. They need tools and opportunity to have movement while in the classroom, in order to optimize their learning and keep them on the right track to success.
My Project
Thanks to Donors Choose our classroom was able to receive two Wobble Chairs this past school year. It was amazing! The students were eco excited, and the chairs were so helpful in boosting our moral while working, as well as keeping our bodies moving just like we need throughout the day.
Flexible seating helps keep students focused, while giving them the ability to move around and just be kids!
Two chairs for a classroom with 25 students at once is just not enough. We are hoping to gain two more of these chairs for the start of the upcoming school year.
As a class we have seen the power they have, and we are excited to continue to learn and grow, with the help of community members who care about our education.
