Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach eager and enthusiastic bilingual first-grade students.
The majority of our students come from low-income households.
They are all English Language Learners. My students come from difficult home environments and qualify for free and reduced lunch. Even with these difficulties, my students come to school each day with smiles on their faces and an excitement to learn. This is what drives and pushes me to be the best teacher I can be. I want to make our classroom a comfortable, safe learning space for each student.
My Project
I would like to implement flexible seating in my first-grade classroom. My students are unique and learn in a variety of ways. When they are given the opportunity to make choices, they feel in control and can take ownership of their own learning. With a variety of seating options, my students will be able to stay engaged in learning throughout the day. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean, or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused.
