Our kindergarten classroom is filled with action. We are constantly on the move exploring, discovering and learning in the world around us. Our school is a great environment and we look forward to each school day!
I consider my students part of our classroom family.
We live in a rural area of Virginia where family values are still strong, and our school is a great part of our community. Our school is one of three elementary schools in our district. We love to move and wiggle. Kindergarten is about discovery and finding how we learn best.
My Project
With increased freedom, comes enhanced satisfaction and motivation. I see that students grow in maturity rapidly when they begin to make learning choices that are in their best interest and are given the chance to make those choices. Choice of seating should not be any different.
With various seating in my entire classroom, I can provide an opportunity to have choice in seating flexibility throughout the day!
Students need an opportunity to get out of their seats and be given an option to move about and be successful in the classroom. Flexible seating options include burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture.
We currently use a few balls, wobble seats and wobble cushions. It is my hope for every student to have an opportunity to sit how they like in our classroom. I hope to use the stools and additional crate seating to help facilitate more flexible seating options. Students shouldn't have to sit in a classroom chair all day (unless they choose to)!
