I'm honored to say that I work at a school that prides itself on its students. It is a high poverty; Title I school in New York City. Each of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students are very hard workers who truly push themselves to do their very best. However, they don't all have the supplies and materials they require to succeed in school. Due to constant budget cuts, my school is not always able to provide classrooms with the little extras, but I want my students to experience and have it all.
My students encounter many challenges inside and outside of the classroom.
Despite the challenges they face regularly, my students are filled with vigor, happiness, and are motivated to learn. They are scientists, mathematicians, singers, leaders, comedians, readers, writers, teachers, dancers, me, you....; they are everything!
My objective is to make my students' school environment comfortable, stress free, and their learning experiences creative and challenging to prepare them for the future. When students arrive in my classroom, I want them to feel that they are safe from the outside world, so they can focus on learning and simply being kids.
My Project
My students come to school full and energy and ready to learn! Just like adults my students get tired of sitting on hard chairs or a plain old carpet all day. They need more flexible/ comfortable seating options to enhance their engagement and learning. Studies have proven that student learn better when they are in a comfortable learning environment.
Bouncy balls will help my students who require some movement when learning.
I work with special needs children, so they are always on go. This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and at home when they are in the classroom. I cannot wait to see all of the great things we can do with flexible seating!
