As a behavior teacher, I teach kids that require intensive interventions and instruction using a variety of behavior techniques and strategies. My students are in grades K-5th and at various ability levels, but all require innovative techniques to improve their focus and attention.
The best part of my job is that I get to use a variety of different strategies to get them to their goals.
I work in a very low-income school and resources are limited.
My students face many challenges each day and I believe this would help take one challenge away. My students come from very low-income homes and this would allow me to treat them to something special.
My Project
Flexible seating would give my students the choice on how they can best learn. My students have behavior and social/emotional needs that we work on daily. My students love to move around and have a very hard time with sitting still. The students in my class tend to work best when given options. The items on my list would allow my students to pick a work area that would best meet their needs. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. When given options of where to sit in the classroom such as under the table, next to my desk, on the floor, and with a clip board, I can see that they are more focused on their work and not so much on moving around. I believe that the items on my list will be great for all ages. I teach grades K-5 and this will give us a great variety of seating. Through research I have found that students with behavior and emotional issues work best when given flexible seating and meeting sensory needs first.
