Our school serves students from 4th grade through 8th grade. We have a wonderful school environment with great teachers, parents, and teachers. Our school continues to perform well on state assessments and we hope to continue to provide an educational experience that suits the needs of all of our students.
My students are full of energy; however, they don't always know how to harness that energy to be successful.
They are hard-working and really want to do well in school. We have a military base in our community and the majority of the children are in our school because the military housing is in our district. Many of my students have been together since elementary school, yet they are very welcoming to our ever-changing military population, including the international students who attend our school every year. We are a very welcoming school and community.
My Project
My project is asking for wobble chairs and stability ball seats to help with my classroom transition from traditional seats to a flexible seating environment. All this means is that I want to offer different types of seating that best meet the needs of my students. For example, a student with ADHD would benefit from a standing table or a wobble stool because it allows them to move while they work. They are able to focus on their work because a part of their body is able to fidget or move.
Research has shown tremendous benefits to a flexible classroom.
I have just started the process and I can see that it is already working. The students are more engaged and focused, especially during group work. I now just need to continue to add seating that would benefit my students. Wobble stools would allow students to work at a table, but still be able to fidget to their hearts' content.
