Help me give my students flexible seating options to help them move and learn at the same time. They are energetic and engaged learners who need to use all their senses to learn and experience the classroom material.
I am a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district where my students face several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these many challenges my students are eager for creative and meaningful learning experiences. Project based learning in my classroom is their outlet for this. Students have the opportunity to work with flexible options with seating as well as project design to help them reach their full potential.
My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. All of our students receive free and reduced price lunch and have experienced significant trauma in their lives. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." The goal in my classroom is for them to see that school is place where people care about them as people and want to share meaningful experiences and positive attention with them.
My Project
My students experience chronic stress, trauma and instability in their lives. The classroom and school is a positive and safe place to learn and have positive social interactions which helps them make meaningful learning connections. Flexible seating is one way that I work to meet their needs both social emotional and educational. My students seek the opportunities to share and learn in an environment that supports them as learners and teachers.
My students will have the opportunity to work at a short table, on the floor, with lap boards and on white-board stations.
A flexible learning approach helps my students learn that they have positive and wonderful things to add to the school and classroom community.
