Mrs. Q. from Kent WA is requesting Flexible Seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Flexible Seating for Active Kids

My students need wobble chairs, floor cushions, stools, chair bands, and lap desks to create an inviting classroom environment while providing support for their active and energetic bodies.

My Students

We are a K-6 Title I school where over 70% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Over 8 different languages are spoken in our school, with a majority being Spanish, Russian/Ukrainian, and Somali. Many of our families are immigrants who are not familiar with the American education system, so a vast majority of our kindergartners come to school not knowing the English language and also not knowing simple foundational skills such as writing their name, recognizing their letters, using scissors, etc.

Despite their struggles, my students persevere in school and want to do well.

They come to school each day with a smile on their faces and are eager to learn. My students love to read and are learning to become great mathematicians. Their excitement is contagious!

My kindergartners come to us with a wide range of prior experiences. My students love hands-on learning experiences. They enjoy participating in shared experiences with their classmates. The kindergartners are very good at sharing, both orally and in written form, things they have learned from hands-on experiences.

My Project

These different seating options for my students will help provide for them the perfect seat. Each student is different and has their own learning style. By providing my students with these seating options they will focus and be attentive to their work.

The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices.

The wobble chairs and stools will allow students to sit at a desk/higher tables but will still allow some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed! The chair bands and wiggle cushions will be available for those who prefer to sit in a traditional seat but need something to help them focus their energy on.

By incorporating alternative seating as a lifestyle in the classroom, it doesn't make any child who has sensory needs stand out. The various seating choices allow little bodies to wiggle as they learn. It gives a place for each child to feel safe to be him or herself and feel equal!

The world is changing, and I want to reflect that change at school. I want to make my classroom a place where my kids love to come each day!
