My classrooms are structured to support the academic and social emotional growth of our children. As a resource teacher, my students often process information in a variety of ways. They need visual, auditory, and kinesthetic means integrated into curriculum. Through a variety of modalities, students work on their reading, math, and organization skills.
My students are clever and beautifully unique.
However, they have struggled to learn within the mainstream classroom. They are capable humans and can thrive with our support.
My Project
The addition of flexible seating, fidgets, and tablets in the classroom will help many of my students focus. Flexible seating will give students the availability to move around. Fidgets will help them wiggle, and tablets will allow them to listen to appropriate and enjoyable music of their choice.
For an anxious student, a student with Autism, or a student with ADHD, tools to help them calm and focus is essential to learning.
It could be the sound of rustling papers and background noise that becomes distracting. It could be the need to move after a long bout of constant stillness. These are all variables that can easily be solved with flexible seating, fidgets and access to music.
