Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When kids and parents walk into my classroom, it is a place that they feel welcome. Our classroom is known to be a place where students feel safe, make mistakes, have fun, laugh, take risks, foster friendships, read, write, create, and live to gain knowledge!
My students are some of the most compassionate and hard working kids that I've ever met.
They are always out to impress and make me proud! I am the RTI/Title 1 teacher at my school site, so I have the privilege of working with students from Kindergarten through sixth grade. I help provide intervention support to struggling students in both one-on-one and small group settings. As a result, I constantly search for new learning-both in the classroom and outside of the classroom-anything to help each and every student I work with succeed! I love teaching, and feel beyond lucky to have found a career that plays such a pivotal role in the lives of so many.
We are a Title 1 school in Anaheim, Ca with over 80% of students qualifying for free/reduced price lunch. 75% of the population of students at our school are English Language Learners.
My Project
I have the privilege of working with every grade level, from Kindergarten to sixth grade. As the Title 1/RTI teacher at my school site, I see many different learners throughout the day. I've learned so much about my students, and try to do everything I can to keep the environment that they are learning in as comfortable as possible. They need more flexible/comfortable seating options to enhance their engagement and learning.
My students need portable laptop/writing desks and alternative seat cushions to enhance their learning.
These items will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning in small groups. This project would significantly help my students stay engaged with their learning. I want them to feel more comfortable and able to learn in alternative ways. These items would allow me to teach my students on the floor or other locations in my classroom. This would be a great alternative to the traditional round table/chair small group method that many of my students struggle with.
