Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from all areas of Los Angeles, but most live in East Los Angeles. My students are all bilingual learners and some of them are trilingual. My incoming 6th graders are very active learners, and are dedicated to their school and their community. We all work together to make learning a joint endeavor which includes students, teachers, families, and community.

We are a very special school, but our resources are limited in terms of funding.

We are not funded by the local school district, nor are we part of a large charter chain. Thus, I am reaching out to our larger global community to help me fund the flexible seating that my students will need to conduct their inquiry projects.

My Project

Adding flexible seating to my class will greatly help my students focus on their inquiry tasks. My students are learning to work independently and having choices about their seating arrangement will help motivate them.

For their inquiry projects, my students work in small groups.

By having a choice of where to sit during their work, it will give them more ownership and responsibility for their own learning. One small group will have traditional chairs and table. Another small group will have the wobbly chairs. Another group will have chairs with bouncy bands and table. The bean bags and ottomans will be for our reading area.
