I am so blessed to get to teach fifth-grade students every day. I want my classroom to be a comfortable, safe place for my students to learn and grow.
My goal is that my classroom is a student-led environment where students get to have a say in how they learn.
This year I am utilizing a flexible seating plan where students get to choose what is most comfortable for them while they learn. Some students learn best while sitting in a traditional chair and desk setting, some prefer to stand and work, while others enjoy sitting on the floor to work.
Differentiated instruction has been researched for years, and as teachers, we are encouraged to differentiate our instruction so that we have an environment where students learn best. One aspect of differentiated instruction is flexible seating.
This year I want to give my students the choice of where and how they learn.
Some students are more comfortable sitting on the floor to learn, some prefer to stand up so they can get their wiggles out, and others prefer to sit at a traditional desk.
I have created this project so that I can add differentiated seating options for my classroom. I have already adjusted my desks so that I have standing desks, floor desks, and traditional desks with a chair. These chair cushions and stability floor seats will help my students to feel comfortable at the seat of their choice. I am so excited to see how learning will be impacted when using these flexible seating aids.
