My students are a great bunch of unique individuals this year. They have vast differences, but all come together to form our community. I currently have two grades in my classroom, which means they work independently and in small groups frequently. For this, I utilize our entire classroom and hallway space to allow them flexibility to move around and work in a quiet area. I have students of different abilities and personalities, as well as interests. They all have one thing in common for sure, and that's their love of school and fourth/fifth grade! This year is a challenging year and they are ready to face what it has to offer! They also have a great growth mindset to preserve through all our new challenges together.
My Project
My students are in a split grade level right now. This means that my time is divided between the two grades, which results in a lot of small group and independent work. I utilize every part of our classroom and often times the hallway to give students the space they need to work together and limit distractions. Flexible seating like these chairs will give them more options to move around the room, while also being comfortable. They also work in small groups a lot during their book club time, and this is their favorite time to move around. They love the yoga balls I currently have, and have asked for more flexible seating, as they feel it helps them focus more during their work time.
