If I could describe my classroom in five words, they would be: engaging, community, authentic, progressive, and rigorous. I have high expectations in my classroom that center around independence and creativity. My students know we are in this together and work as a team to get over the hurdles we face. Every student in my class has a unique voice that needs to be heard and respected. Together, as a team, we work to be the best people we can be inside and outside of the classroom!
This year me and my students have begun participating in genius hour! The question we came up with as a class is, how can we improve our classroom to better our learning. Over the last month we have dug into research and video chatted with other classrooms on a quest to figure out what changes we need to make. We have identified five areas of focus and have broken into project teams: movement, quit space, creativity, floor plan and flexible seating. Our flexible seating design group has worked hard to figure out what type of furniture or seating options would help improve their learning.
Research has shown seating that allows movement helps to circulate flood flow which can increase focus and productivity.
Having this in mind my students feel that having yoga ball seats would be a great option to enhance learning. Yoga ball chairs would allow students the choice to bounce and move while actively participating.
