Mr. Drabner from West Valley City UT is requesting Flexible Seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Flexible Seating for 1st Grade Student Choice and Engagement!

My students need Learniture Active Learning Stools so that they have a comfortable and stable chair that will help their posture, engagement, and give them student choice on what they sit on.

My Students

My students come from all backgrounds and strive to learn everything they can while in the classroom. Our school received 1-to-1 Chromebooks this year, and it has been amazing for them to get differentiated instruction and use technology in more critical and analytical ways.

They are from all ability levels but share one thing, the drive to learn.

The passion my students have makes me so proud to be their teacher, as they encourage me to continue my own education so I can provide them with the best education they can receive. I want to share all I can with them to make sure they are proficient in their foundation skills. Doing this while providing them with a safe and positive classroom atmosphere to encourage risk taking to promote learning.

My Project

We currently use desks and chairs, and I want to have a variety of seating options in our classroom to help stimulate student learning. As we use technology a lot in our class for instruction, many students dislike their current seating option.

Research has shown that using flex seating can improve student productivity, engagement, ownership of classroom, and promote positive behaviors.

I want to give my students choice in their seating, while also being able to provide them with a safe and secure environment that will allow them to explore and take risks so learning may happen.

I have included a wide variety of seating options in my list, so that my students feel like they have choice. I also have students in our classroom that can get distracted easily by sitting in their desk and chair. Sensory input from a variety of different seating options will help these students stay on task more. I have wobbly stools that move with students, chairs without legs, so students can sit closer together and have their legs in multiple positions, and balance balls to help with posture and have students move around easier.

I also included camping chairs so that students can do their centers or free reading in a chair that fits their needs at that moment. I wanted to have a wide variety of options so that students can move and have their sense of touch stimulated so that they're able to stay on task and promote positive behaviors.

Our classroom is the only safe and consistent place some of my students have. They are full of energy and always looking forward to what they can accomplish next. Flex seating could be a catalyst to take our learning to the next step!
