My students need a flexible seating classroom to improve their focus, productivity, and love of learning! Help me provide them with standing tables, cozy seats for our book nook, and bins for easy book selection!
My awesome students are high-energy and eager to learn! They face challenges outside of the classroom but come in every morning ready to learn and grow. They have hearts of gold and deserve every opportunity to have the most engaging and rigorous education possible.
While some of them come in to first grade already reading, many are not quite readers yet, and thereabout comes the best part of my job.
Help me turn these jersey city kiddos into fluent readers with foundational skills to last a lifetime. While my students may be strangers to you, your support will mean the world to them!
My Project
The learning curve during this, my first year of teaching, has been invaluable. While I have many goals as I move forward into my 2nd year and on, one of several priorities is to improve my students' experiences when learning to "read to self". This typically takes place during Guided Reading as one of several stations when small groups of readers at similar levels receive targeted instruction.
Primarily, you will notice that I am hoping to fund flexible seating options for my little readers.
There is no "average reader" as there is no average learner. I have requested several different seating options for every type of reader I may acquire. Some students will do well standing, while others will need to be seated at a desk. Some love to read lying down while some will be motivated by having a bean bag chair to lounge in. Whatever will spark my kiddos' desire to sit down and read, is what I want to provide for them in my classroom.
Additionally, I have requested bins that will help improve my library by having better organized leveled readers so that students can independently select appropriate stories. You will notice whiteboards to aid with student engagement during lessons, as well as "hear myself" sound phones to make reading more fun! Overall, everything that I made a mental note of as being useful during my guided reading lessons this year, is in the project. Help reading become a joyful habit rather than a cumbersome one.
Help me turn 25 new kindergartners into reading whiz's in the fall!
