The fourth grade students in my building are such an incredible group of young people. They love coming to school each day. You can see it as they walk down the hallways, eager to high five or hug their teachers. Our students are always looking for ways to help one another, including their teachers. I am so lucky to get to work with these fabulous future leaders of the world.
My students are given the opportunity to make choices on a daily basis.
They vote in regards to curricular issues. They have the option to work alone, in partners, or in groups. My students get to decide what activities they want to participate in during their Math Lab time. They even get the choice to choose which type of seat they want to sit in for the day.
I am requesting three wobble stools for my fourth grade classroom. Since they are so expensive, I only feel comfortable in requesting a few at a time. Many teachers in my building already have this type of chair in their classroom and the students love them. In fact, they almost race to get into the classroom, so they can be the ones to sit on the wobble stools.
There has been a lot of recent research on the benefits of using this type of flexible seating in the classroom.
Some research has shown that this type of flexibility can help boost academic outcomes. The wobble chairs allow a student to move and flex without leaving their seat. These stools help exercise the students' legs, back, and abdomens. According to their website, they can even relieve sore muscles and stiff joints.
