What makes the students in my classroom special? Everything about them! From their silly yet witty personalities, to their excitement for learning, the kiddos I work with are truly one of a kind.
Each day that I come into my classroom, not only am I teaching my students, but they are teaching me as well.
I've learned about beaches I've never visited, video games I've never played, and books I've never read.
My students are special because they each have a passion. While these passions are vastly different, they are eager to share these passions with anyone who will listen.
My Project
My students need flexible seating options in the classroom to better focus their attention and broaden their critical thinking. Items such as wobble chairs and wobble cushions will allow my students to get their wiggles out in their seat without leaving their desk! Pillows, beach chairs, and lapdesks will allow my students to expand their thinking in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Items such as stools provide a "fun" alternative to a regular chairs while being in my small group at teacher table each day. These items as a whole will allow my classroom to be an inviting space.
Over the last 2 years, if there is anything that I have learned as a teacher, it is that each child I have the pleasure of teaching has a completely different learning style!
Having flexible seats in my classroom allows these vastly different learning styles to find a spot/method of seating in the room where they feel most comfortable.
I know as an adult, some of my best thinking comes to me when I am not only in a safe place, but a comfortable place as well where I can really relax and allow my mind to think critically. I believe that the same is true for the students that I work with. Allowing them choice allows them to be in control of their thinking and their learning in my classroom.
