Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking and striving to meet grade level standards. My students have multiple disabilities, and have a range of abilities from kindergarten to third grade levels. They are in an integrated classroom setting, which means they strive to work alongside students who function at grade level. This makes many tasks extremely difficult for them which can cause a lack of motivation. I strive to motivate my students to learn and enjoy learning! Also, my students require a high level of student engagement to keep their focus on lessons, using various strategies in teaching, seating and learning. Furthermore, my students come from predominantly immigrant households with English as a second language. Parents work hard, long hours to give their children everything they can. There is a lack of support at home due to language barriers and parents working more than one job to survive. They try the best they can to help reinforce learning at home. I want to help bridge academic and social gaps for my students! My students deserve to come to school and learn in a highly inviting and engaging atmosphere that makes them happy and eager to learn!
My Project
Imagine a classroom without the boring desks students can't write on, broken down chairs that don't let them move, and a hidden mess to keep their eyes and hands distracted and hidden.... Impossible? NOT ANYMORE! This project aims to change the typical classroom into a new inviting, interactive and engaging space that eliminates many distractions, while providing endless benefits to student focus and social skills. If this project gets funded, I will be getting rid of every desk in my classroom, and replacing them with dry erase community tables. This will allow students to work together while learning throughout the day. They will be able to work and brainstorm together while writing on their tables and learning from each other! The tables will eliminate a hidden space inside of the desk that keeps messy, unorganized books, loose supplies and distractible items. This will allow students to give their full attention to their peers and teachers while learning. The cubbies will be used to store all student books and materials away from the tables. The balance ball chairs will allow students who are fidgety and restless move throughout the day while promoting better health and posture. I want to revolutionize my classroom into a space where students are highly engaged and a boring classroom is not the norm anymore. Students will no longer have an assigned seat! They have a choice in where they learn and work best! Materials like this will help the students who strive to do well in my class better interact with the other students by providing a fun and functional way to learn from each other as a team.
