I'm blessed to work in a school that is full of inquisitive bright scholars. They are excited about school and learning, and can't wait to try new things! At our Title 1 school, we have a very high ELL and EC population. We try our best to make the classrooms engaging, and stimulating to encourage healthy learning.
One of the biggest things that I noticed this past school year is that my scholars LOVE the opportunity to work around the classroom using flexible seating; the community in the room is great when they do so!
However as a math teacher, with 3 different classes revolving through my door, at an average of 30 kids a class; I simply don't have enough seating options for my scholars to choose from.
I come to you all today, asking for your help. They need more seating options, to help all scholars have equal access to a focused learning space, and board visibility.
They are learning to make mature choices about what seating choice is the best interest of their education. They figure out how they learn best, and this is a life skill they can continue to use long past the 4th grade!
My Project
These seating options will help allow for my students who need to fidget to have an outlet to get their energy out, while still helping to maintain their focus. They will help my scholars to self regulate their learning, which will allow more investment and ownership of their education.
Having these seating choices also allows my students to feel like they are part of our classroom community.
Able to share space and collaborate all throughout the room. It has been shown to increase energy and blood flow, which both have positive ramifications on the scholars ability to focus and succeed academically.
