Flexible Seating Enhances Learning in My Classroom
My students need alternate seating in the classroom to help them find a space that works best for them. The wobble stools, balls, futon, saucer chairs, and soft seats will provide them with more options.
My third grade students are highly engaged in their learning. I am constantly impressed by their willingness to try new things and to think outside the box. One third of my students are English language learners. They come from many places around the world and have individual experiences that add to our classroom. I also have students with special needs in my classroom that would benefit from my project of a flexible seating environment. I am looking forward to enhancing the learning of my students.
My Project
Research shows that allowing students to sit in flexible seating options enhances student focus. With a fulfilled project, I would be able to offer my students a variety of seating options based on what they choose to best fit their needs. Students would be able to use a futon couch, stability balls, wobble chairs, saucer chairs, and seat cushions to focus in the classroom and to collaborate with others. These options will allow them to become more comfortable, find a responsible working space and get the most out of classroom activities. It is exciting to know that offering flexible seating will help insure the success of my students. My students are very excited to get to choose their seats. This will lead to students having more choice and the ability to self-monitor as to whether or not their choice is effective for them. I prefer to work in a comfortable seating arrangement, such as on the couch or a comfortable chair with wheels, as opposed to a plastic chair. I believe students should have the same options, as well.
