My students are energetic and curious with a keen sense of community. We are part of our school's Spanish Immersion program, which has developed a tight-knit, purpose-driven community within our school.
These enthusiastic students enjoy learning and are highly creative, especially when given the opportunity to learn through hands-on projects and activities.
Like all children, they love to move and I find that incorporating music, movement, and choice of seating and learning partners increases their focus, enjoyment, and productivity.
They take pride in their accomplishments and love to share their efforts with their classmates, family, and friends.
My Project
Traditional seating arrangements are often uncomfortable and can encourage students to feel territorial and discourage sharing and collaboration. When children have some control over their environment, they learn better. Seating options encourage them to take turns, share, collaborate, and cooperate.
It is no secret that children need to move.
When they can't move, they often become distracted or disruptive. Flexible seating choices allow them to bounce, lean, twist, wobble and find comfortable positions so they can be calm, focused, and productive.
The bouncing and rocking motions of the balance balls, wobble chairs, and wobble cushions can not only help calm fidgety students and help them focus, but they can help strengthen their core as well.
Fidget bands are a quiet way for students who need to kick or fidget their legs to do so without kicking others students, making distracting noises or bumping furniture that other students are using for their work.
The carry cushions allow us to take our learning anywhere, including outdoors, and still be comfortable, while the lap desks provide a stable surface for students who like to sit on the floor, but need a solid, stationary work space.
