Sixth grade is a pivotal year for teaching collaboration, group work, and self-advocacy before the transition to middle school. In this age of technology, my students need opportunities to engage in their learning and with their peers on a regular basis.
My students come from a variety socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds with individual learning modalities, special needs, and varying learning levels, which ultimately create our awesome classroom family!
Pre-teen is a difficult age where a love for inquisitive learning needs to be instilled. Being able to provide them the opportunity to work and create in a variety of settings is essential to fostering a love for independence as well as teamwork.
My students are uniquely different, talented, and inquisitive. Engaging them in their learning and helping them to become active participants in my learning environment is my goal at all times. Our classroom is a family environment where differences are respected, cultivated, and nurtured.
Flexible seating and learning opportunities create an enduring love for learning and promote self-advocacy through learners knowing how they learn best.
My Project
Flexible learning opportunities allow students to self-advocate by selecting how they learn best. Making sound decisions about one's learning is an essential skill as students make the move toward junior high. Flexible seating creates learners who are active participants in their learning and strive for success!

Positive decision making is essential to learning and growing academically and socially.
Our project included 4 chairs that will go with our dry erase table for small grouping as well as can be moved to additional areas in the room for independent work time or small groups. Bouncy bands provide a sensory experience for over-active learners who require movement without impeding their learning. These band are attached to their chairs and provide movement without disruption.
