In the 21st century, sensory needs are increasing! Students as young as four, five, and six years old are often intrigued, motivated, and engaged with 'fun' tools. Think about it, when given the choice of sitting in a small, hard chair or a big comfy chair- which would you choose? I think I would do my best work in that big comfy chair!
Kindergarten is the beginning of every child's future.
It is one of the most crucial years because it is the foundation of establishishing a feeling, comfort, and love for learning. My students enter with a wide variety of needs, skills, abilities, and attention spans. It is my job to not only teach them academics, but also social skills, manners, and basic routines!
Flexible seating offers a great opportunity to build a classroom community, teaches them responsibility, and allows for them to learn in a way that meets all of their needs through differentiated instruction. Learning in a fun, relaxing, and unique way will create a more engaging and developmentally appropriate environment for small groups, centers, and independent work. This allows for my students to have more movement, more availability for choice, and endless exploration.
My Project
The purpose for bringing the tables into my classroom is to create an environment that allows for more movement, choice, hands-on, engaging, and effective learning. They will be used for flexible seating during both math and literacy centers, small group instruction, and independent work! They will come to the table more motivated, eager, and ready to learn!
Problem solvers now will create problem solvers later!
Outside of the classroom is a world made up of choices. My goal is to create a space that reaches all styles of learning, attention spans, and needs of every student through collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. According to research, children who participate in small physical activities will have more focus and ability to complete tasks with their best work. Your donations will improve my classroom by more shining light into my students’ learning with endless opportunities to have more comfort and engagement in learning and exploration while accommodating their specific learning styles. For example, students who struggle to sit for a longer periods of time will be able to stand at their table, others will use scoop rockers. These adjustable tables will give my students the choice and opportunity for movement throughout the day meeting their sensory needs. I believe it will change my students lives because this will mold their foundation of love for learning that they will utilize for the rest of their lives which will also help pave the road of their future! They will be given the opportunity of endless learning and chances to grow.
