My students are learning support students who struggle everyday with learning due to their deficits not only in learning but also because they are from an area of high poverty. My students need to learn social skills in order to understand how to work together with others, gain friendships, be able to work in the classroom with students during centers time, recess and just their everyday learning of their core subjects. When students know how to work well with others they will also be more successful in the classroom and the classroom will have a calm and comfortable feeling for the students. It is important for students to feel comfortable in their classroom so they are confident and ready to learn. This will not only make the students successful in the classroom but also in their community.
I want to see all of my students succeed in the classroom by building friendships as well as being successful in the classroom.

My Project
I want to give my students a comfortable atmosphere so that they can learn to the best of their ability. This allows the students to be comfortable, feel like they get a say in the classroom so that they want to learn and pay attention in the classroom. It will also give students a break from the traditional seating in the classroom and allow them choices like sitting on the floor, sitting in a different style seat. This will allow students to focus more on learning and allow students to feel like they are able to complete their assignments in a comfortable way. I want students to feel like they are able to get choices on where they sit and still be able to learn and be successful in the classroom. This will definitely help my students a lot. We need the rug for our classroom so that the students can read in their reading nook, and we need the stability ball chairs to allow different seating options in the classroom for kids when they are working independently. We also need lap desks for students to be able to sit on the floor and use their computer or write on their assignments. Flexible seating allows the students to take charge of their learning and choose a location in the classroom that works best for them. During independent work times the students are able to choose where they want to sit. Maybe it would be a different style chair, on the floor using a lap desk, or even when reading in a reading nook.
