My students need various places to sit that are not desks, for example, large rectangular tables, to fulfill our philosophy of flexible seating.

My Students

My students are in fourth grade and range from 9 to 10 years old. They thrive off of a collaborative work environment. These kiddos live very active lifestyles where many are involved in extracurricular activities, such as sports outside of school. They value space where they have the opportunity to move around. They love to dialogue with each other, share ideas, and are actively engaged in their learning. These fourth graders take ownership in how they learn and are not afraid to voice their opinion and thoughts.

My Project

The large rectangular tables will allow the philosophy of flexible seating to flourish! These kiddos love to take charge of their learning and choose to sit where they feel most successful. I find that when my students are able to successfully communicate in a safe environment, they absorb the content more easily and are able to share their knowledge with peers around them.

Flexible seating provides an environment to encourage collaboration, valuable discussions, and ideas to be shared amongst students.

It also promotes cooperative learning strategies to take place, which helps to encourage a positive classroom environment. This unique style of seating also helps with differentiation within students' learning.
