Help me give my students flexible seating which will give them more options for learning areas in our classroom. The IKEA chairs and lap desks will enhance student learning for all.
I work at a large school of around 700 students. We have a heavy population of students who receive free and reduced lunch. We also have a heavy population of ADHD and Special Education students. We are also in the area of the Opioid Crisis and we have a large amount of foster children with multiple problems. These students seem to learn best by doing hands-on project based learning, flexible seating and different choices in seating. My classroom is in need of this type of flexible seating to meet the needs of a high energy group of students. I have found when I let the students have a hands on learning environment with the projects and centers they seem to be more engaged and responsible for their learning. I need the tools and set up to help them not only become successful, but to work to their full potential in the classroom setting.
My Project
When students are given a choice in seating areas they are better behaved and focused on their learning. These types of areas in a classroom give ADHD students and special education students a choice in which they are more apt to learn. The lap desks can be used in small groups, in projects, outside learning, and on the carpet areas where students can find their own nook to learn. Lap desks can make learning mobile and on the go. The lap desks with the white board serves as a learning tool and desk. It also has a docking station for a tablet or iPad where students can use with our online math program and work problems out as they go on the white board.
