Flexible Seating: Changing Lives One Bounce at a Time
My students need flexible seating to tap into the best learning environment possible. I have chosen the balance ball chairs to help with wiggling while working. All items chosen help students focus and keep them engaged!
I teach a wonderful group of 3rd grade students at our elementary! They work extremely hard every day to learn to the best of their ability. I have been teaching for 6 years now, and have always let my students move about the room or stand if it helps them work. This year I have really thought about incorporating flexible seating for my students. Studies have shown that students work much better if they are able to have options. I have tried this strategy on numerous occasions this year, and it works! My students and I are ready to kick out the desks and utilize a more comfortable, choice oriented classroom that gives them the option to find where they learn best. As educators, we focus a lot on the different learning styles of students (which is very important), but if they are not engaged in the conversation and participating in class, it just isn't going to stick. Flexible seating gives students the freedom to move, wiggle, lay, stand, sit, bounce, or kneel their way to success!
My Project
If the Gaiam balance ball chairs, WOBBLE seats, and Trideer stability balls are provided to my students, it will open a world of opportunity for learning in a fun and innovative way. In classrooms today, students are using more technology. I have found that my students find it difficult to sit for long periods of time even if it is at a computer. With the programs and assignments being done in a comfortable manner, they will stay engaged longer and learn from each other in the process. Flexible seating also teaches students to take responsibility for their own learning. This transition is a wonderful sight to see! I am so excited about this project. I hope to be able to make flexible seating a reality for my students.
