My classroom school family consists 34 preschool students who range from ages 3-5 years old. The majority of our students are typically from low income households. Head Start is a program that targets children in families with incomes less than 130 percent of the federal poverty level. I teach a double session class, which means I have two three and a half hour classes each day. Each class has 17 students that will all have the opportunity to use these new materials.
Flexible seating is an approach that is student-centered and it encourages students to find a spot in the classroom where they are comfortable, able to focus and be productive! Having such an inviting and cozy area will encourage our young readers to develop a love for books and reading. The listening center will help us add a wider variety of literacy in our reading center that engage students and really capture their interest. Encouraging early literacy in the classroom is very important because it helps students develop healthy reading habits, as well as kindergarten readiness skills and future academic success!
