The students I service encompass 2/3 of the 8th grade coming from various walks of life; however the majority of whom fall into the category of underserved and underprivileged. There is a wide range in their academic performance from E.C. (exceptional children), general education, to the AIG (Academically Intellectually Gifted). With such a wide range in the students I service, I find it difficult to focus as I describe them. If I had to put it bluntly, these are some of the most determined minds I have had the pleasure of working with.
If you stumble and fall get back up, reflect on why you failed and what went wrong, then make the change and find the result you set out for.
This is one thing I emphasize to my students every year. These children make the effort to get to school on time, study, and struggle to achieve to the standard of success determined by state officials; yet their growth as individuals speaks volumes when compared to a score or number determined by the state. Working through small group instruction, these children let me into their world. Building trust and bonds where once there were walls and barriers.
My Project
The stools will be used in the classroom to provide alternative seating options that will be paired with standing tables that I am currently constructing. The students that are seated will be working independently, at their own pace, along the perimeter of the classroom. This will allow the instruction to be focused on small groups with students that need more specialized instruction.
The idea of flexed seating in my classroom has been an option that I have been considering for several reasons.
The stools chosen in the specific colors would emphasise our school pride. As we are 1-1 tech ths would also allow for better monitoring of tech use.
