I have 23 bubbly, curious first graders in a rural area. They are always thinking and wondering. We are constantly learning about the world around us! We have developed a strong sense of community in our classroom and the students feel comfortable interacting with each other.
These students are leaders, proactive problem solvers, and always working hard to be better!
We are focusing of course on learning to read, write, and solve math problems, but I am also trying to capitalize on the natural wonder and curiosity these students have about the world around them by teaching lots of science and social studies.
My classroom library is a place my students really enjoy. However I have run out of storage for books so I am looking for some durable bins to organize the books (by author, genre, etc.).
Rather than sitting at stationary desks in rows all day, my students will use the wobble cushions, stools, etc.
to allow for flexible seating and grouping. This will help the students learn to work in groups and also get their 'wiggles' out!
The phonics activities I have asked for will be used in small groups to help my first graders with the tricky aspects of the English language. I specifically chose the games based on phonics skills that typically need reinforcement.
