Flexible Seating and Social-Emotional Support for Special Needs Students!
My students need flexible seating options to accommodate sensory needs. The sensory light table will help students to calm when they are feeling anxious or upset. The wobble chairs will help focus and calm during instruction.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a class of students who have disabilities ranging from autism to learning disabilities. Many come from high poverty and low income households. My school and classroom population is made up of 95% English Language Learners from Spanish speaking backgrounds. My classroom is made up of students who require a lot of support, motivation, and praise to get through their day. Many of my kids come from homes with a lot of children and coming to school gives them the individualized attention they require.
My students require support in the areas of social-emotional and sensory needs.
I would like to provide them with all they need in my classroom, so when they come to school they have a comfortable and safe place to learn. Many of my students come to school without basic needs met including sleep, food, and shelter.
My Project
My students have disabilities that include social-emotional challenges as well as sensory needs. These students come from a high poverty area and are not given the opportunities or comfort that students in other schools may receive in their classroom. I want to provide them with flexible seating and sensory support to make learning fun and easy for them!
The resources I have requested include: flexible seating to support sensory needs (wobble chairs, flex-space balance ball seats, and giant comfy pillows) as well as social emotional support in the form of curriculum to teach students about emotions and socialization.
The light and sensory play materials, feel & find sensory tubs, light table sensory tray, translucent sensory ball, translucent sensory rings, and beads will allow students a break and to meet their sensory needs during centers. These materials also give students a place to calm down after challenging behaviors have occurred. The different options for seating will help students calm and focus during instruction.
I want to give my students the best possible chance at learning by increasing their social-emotional support through sensory tables, sensory beads, flexible seating, and effective social-emotional instruction using the social-emotional learning kit throughout the day. Many of my students face challenges with behavior, and their ability to focus will help them become more successful.
