My Students
Our school is a Title 1 school, with more than half of the students coming from low-income families. I am very blessed to teach an amazing group of k-5th grade students in a special education resource setting. These students are considered below grade level and receive interventions and supports in math, reading, writing, and social skills daily in my room. My students have a variety of sensory and attention/focus needs. When these needs are met, they are much happier, more successful, and more engaged in learning.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by helping them with their sensory needs and help them focus. If a student cannot focus on their work they will miss out on learning and might have inappropriate behaviors, the sensory items and flexible seats could calm them down and help them refocus on their work. Some of the students need to fidget with things while they are working and these items can help my students be focused and relaxed. Flexible seating will also keep my students focused on the academics in the classroom and keep them comfortable and relaxed. Flexible seating will decrease unexpected behaviors and increase learning and engagement.
