Help me give my students a learning environment that is suited to the needs and interests of 3rd and 4th-grade students through the use of flexible seating items and materials to help set the stage for learning!
I teach in a Title I school in which all students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Being a low-income school, I want to introduce my students to opportunities or materials that they may not otherwise experience. I want my students to be excited about their learning, to create in them a desire to attend school and thrive there, and I want to teach them how to best understand their own learning needs and work around those needs, making appropriate adaptions to their learning environment. I'll be using these funds to implement flexible seating in my classroom as well as adding a few items that will contribute to room transformations!
My Project
In order to teach students how their own mind and body best learns, I will be purchasing a variety of flexible seating options such as wobble stools and "bench" seating bookshelves--which will double as a standing desk! While some students learn best by standing, others will need seating options that allow them to move. I want to provide these options for my students so that learning is a physically comfortable experience!
After feeling comfortable in their learning environment, I want to engage my students in their learning by providing learning EXPERIENCES, transformations that transport them from our classroom to an environment where the topic of study is all around them and applicable, not just words on a worksheet.
Black lights will help create crime scenes, fact finding missions, and other engaging lessons where simply adding a "glow" factor increases engagement and excitement!
I am thrilled to continue to offer my students a learning environment that bests suits their interests and their needs!
