My Students

I teach in a high poverty school, but we don't fall under Title One qualifications for our state guidelines. We have the same challenges as Title One schools, but without any of the additional funding. Despite the challenges they face at home, my students come each day ready to learn and with smiles on their faces. I have students who are on the Autism spectrum. I have multiple students who have emotional disorders. I also have students who have one or both parents active in the military.

The abilities in my classroom range from pre-k to above third grade level.

My Project

My students have various learning styles and would benefit from various options of learning environments. Some students would benefit from the ability to sit on the floor. These arrangements would make it more comfortable for them to do so.

My students do a lot of partner and small group work in all areas of the curriculum, especially in math.

It would be awesome to have equipment for them to work more comfortably on the floor while working in partners and small groups.

Right now, they work on the floor but it is uncomfortable, which makes it difficult for them to focus. By allowing the students to choose, it gives them ownership over their learning. Student ownership is a key factor in student success.
