Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into our classroom every day with a smile on their faces, ready to learn, and eager for what is in store for them that day. I make sure they know know I believe in them and they can do anything their hearts and brains desire.
Our school serves students in grades K-5 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment.
Our goal is to prepare our students for success in college and various careers.
Our 5th grade is comprised of approximately 80 eager students, many of whom come from bilingual households and all of them receive free breakfast, lunch and most a snack after school.
My Project
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them.
During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting near tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
Help me transfer a normal seat to a playground for our student's imagination. Unlike regular chairs, the Kore Wobble Chair forces your children's bodies to conform to a natural posture. This innovative chair allows one's knees, hips, and back to find comfortable and ever-changing positions. Add an outlet for restlessness and extra energy while doing classwork, drawing, conferencing, peer editing, etc. This is also great for children with ADD or ADHD.
